About Us

Tanis Burnett, a registered clinical counsellor in Kelowna, BC.

Meet Tanis

I’m a compassionate and empathic Registered Clinical Counsellor in Kelowna, BC, dedicated to supporting clients on their journey towards healing and self-discovery. I’m a transracial adoptee from South Korea and grew up mostly in Kelowna playing competitive hockey and baseball. When I was still in high school, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, which interrupted my future plans and ambitions on a number of occasions. These personal experiences with challenging my identity both as an adoptee and as a person with an invisible disability have cultivated a deep appreciation for diversity and resilience. When I’m not seeing clients, I love spending time with my dog, Joey, and golfing.

Education and Credentials

I obtained a Bachelor of Human Kinetics degree from UBC Okanagan (2012) and a Masters in Counselling from City University (2023). My diverse professional background includes roles as a disability researcher, kinesiologist, as well as an injury recovery specialist with ICBC. Along with counselling, I currently also work in the field of vocational rehabilitation consulting. I am a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #22658). I’m also a Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP #1397) and a non-practicing member of BC Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK #2016082).

What Sets Me Apart?

I bring a unique set of specialized knowledge related to injury claims and the insurance world. I’m passionate about supporting individuals through the intricate process of injury rehabilitation. Having direct experience as an injury adjuster, my counselling clients receive emotional support for the frustrations arising from their injury claim.

My work as a Kinesiologist and providing active rehab services helped me understand how we physically recover, but I also believe in the power of the mind in healing the body. By addressing the psychological aspects of recovery through counselling, we can find untapped potential, promote resilience, and empower individuals to not just recover but thrive in the face of adversity.

If you are ready to embark on a journey of holistic healing and emotional well-being alongside your physical recovery, I am here to support you. Together, we can clear a pathway to resilience, self-awareness, and a brighter future beyond injury. Book Now
